Exhibition: Marble and Mud

Marble and Mud was a creative culmination of my identity, examined through the lens of my Greek heritage. Drawing on years of exploring my relationship with culture and upbringing, the exhibition tied together mixed media, textiles, writing, projection and performance. My experience of self within the Greek diaspora is layered with love and pain, beauty and rejection—where gender, sexuality, purpose and belonging collide with a longing for home. Processing inherited trauma, internalised colonisation and cultural displacement, the work sits within a dreamscape of classical pop art, stories from the village, and the place I find myself between the marble and mud.

During the creative process, a connection emerged between my creativity and my menstrual cycle. I began tracking how each phase—menstruation, follicular, ovulation and luteal—manifested in my practice, revealing recurring patterns in colour, focus, energy and inspiration. The final exhibition followed these four stages, moving from heavier, more reflective works into lighter, joyful and playful elements, before grounding back into stillness before beginning the cycle again.
